Kaspersky uncovers fraudulent New Year prize quiz

MOSCOW, Dec 29 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Kaspersky has uncovered a scam disguised under a New Year prize draw from the country’s large retailers, the antivirus software maker said on Wednesday in a statement.

“In order to get a generous prize, the user should complete a small survey, allegedly to improve the quality of servicing at stores,” Kaspersky said.

Fraudsters offered users to win up to 500,000 rubles in some mailouts and up to 1 million rubles in others for answering simple questions and sharing a link with several contacts. The users were also asked to remit 1 ruble for access to the database of the prize draw, and the perpetrators obtained the data of bank cards to steal more.
